Adobe have just announced the release of Lightroom for Apple TV. Interestingly, it doesn’t actually seem to let you edit your images. What it does do, is sync up your work letting you quickly flick through your images on the big screen. Lightroom for Apple TV is available now and completely free from the App Store. It does, however, require a Creative Cloud subscription to login and sync up your images.
I’m a little glad you can’t edit from this. I would guess doing anything serious through the Apple TV remote is going to be more than a little frustrating. Not to mention the often terrible colour accuracy of your average TV. The new Apple TV app lets you browse through your images using a filmstrip format. Or you can just show your images one by one with a slideshow.
You can stop the slideshow any time you want, allowing you to zoom into images to see the details.
It will be interesting to see how this is picked up by both consumers and professionals. I know many wedding and portrait photographers who have ordering sessions with images projected onto a large screen. Something like this could speed up their prep time drastically for those sessions. Lightroom for Apple TV keeps itself synced up with Lightroom CC, Lightroom Mobile, or Lightroom on the web. This also means that they can make changes on the fly via computer and have the results immediately displayed on the TV. Given that it has to sync up to Adobe’s remote servers and then back down to the Apple TV, though, I wonder how quickly this would perform in the real world. Still, it’s nice to see Adobe coming out with a solution to ease the showing of images on the big screen. Lightroom is available now and requires Apple TV 4th Generation, and a Creative Cloud account to sync up your files. Do you have Apple TV?
