Blackmagic Design’s URSA Mini 4K and URSA Mini 4.6K have been extremely popular amongst cinematographers. And for good reason. They are extremely capable cameras that provide excellent results. But, there are features that users have been asking for. Features that would make them even more powerful and faster to use. In response, Blackmagic Design have today announced the new URSA Mini Pro. It’s a new 4.6K model that features built in ND filters, an interchangeable lens mount, and dual C-Fast and UHS-II SD card slots. It’s a pretty beefy update to the URSA Mini line, and one that will offer some very welcome additions to filmmakers everywhere.

The idea of putting a pair of dual card slots in the camera might seem a little odd, but it’s a fantastic compromise. When you need seriously fast cards to handle that 4.6K 513MB/sec 12Bit lossless CinemaDNG RAW video, you’ve got the CFast. If you’re just shooting 4K UHD with ProRes at 250MB/sec, you can go for slightly less expensive but still very fast UHS-II SD Cards. With 1080p ProRes topping out at 62.5MB/sec, recording medium costs drop drastically.

Of course, if you’re going for a camera like this, shooting 1080p probably isn’t going to be your priority. The Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6K is available to preorder now for $5,995 and will start shipping March 9th. Included with the URSA Mini Pro is a free copy of DaVinci Resolve Studio, which would normally set you back another $995. You can find out more about the camera over on the Blackmagic Design Website.
