Canon has shown off a pretty major upcoming firmware update for the Canon EOS R and EOS RP cameras to enhance their autofocus capabilities. Specifically, the update seems to deal with the speed and accuracy of Eye AF and object tracking. A video demo posted to YouTube by Canon shows side-by-side comparisons of the current firmware vs the new one, which should be arriving in September.
Canon says that the new firmware update will be coming at some point towards the end of September, and the downloads will be available in the respective pages for the EOS R and EOS RP cameras. They say that the new firmware improves three main functions.

Many EOS R and EOS RP users are already quite happy with the autofocus capabilities of their cameras, although, for those who’ve been struggling, this will be a very welcome upgrade. With Nikon also jumping on the Eye AF bandwagon, and Sony’s recent addition of realtime tracking, it’s no surprise that Canon is stepping up to try and compete.
