After Nikon, Canon has also decided to temporarily shut down some of its repair shops in the USA. In California, New Jersey, Illinois, and Hawaii, Canon is closing the repair facilities “until further notice,” and of course, it’s all because of the current coronavirus pandemic.
“The spread of COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving situation that is of great concern to everyone,” Canon writes in the announcement.
The move was probably expected, considering that most companies are temporarily closing in order to show down the spread of the virus. I believe that many photographers are also out of work at the moment, so it’s likely that the need for gear repair will be reduced as well. However, if anything does happen to your gear and you need to have it repaired, Canon offers some alternatives. Any gear that needs repair will be directed to Canon’s Factory Service Center in Newport News, Virginia. “Please note that walk-in service is not available at this location,” the company warns. Also, you can still use the online system to set up the service of your product, and your gear will be safely delivered by couriers.
