An interesting patent from Canon was recently spotted, one that many photographers could find very useful. Judging from the patent application filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, Canon could be developing a universal battery grip that will fit different camera models.

The patent application was first spotted by Nortlight Images. Judging from the drawings, the universal grip could be fitted onto different models of Canon cameras using different adapters. It’s also designed so that it allows you to move the position of the tripod screw. Take a look at the photos and see for yourself:

Of course, there’s no word yet on when (and if) we’ll see this in production. But for photographers who own and use multiple Canon bodies, something like this could be an awesome addition to their gear bag. What do you think? Would you buy one if it appears in the market? [via Canon Rumors]
