If you’ve ever wanted to bring together the quality of the DSLR and the spontaneity of an instant camera, C.P. Goerz joins them in Citograph 35mm f/8 lens. The lens is always in focus, and it’s aimed to “put the ‘Insta’ back into Instagram.”  and “bring the spontaneity back to photography while maintaining the highest standards of photo creation.”

The Citograph 35mm f/8 lens is a compact, lightweight Tessar-type lens that doesn’t have any moving parts. The focal length is 35mm, and the aperture is fixed to f/8. When you take the shot with it, everything from 3m to infinity will be in focus.

As the description on the Kickstarter page explains, this lens is supposed to give you plenty of opportunities to express yourself and create photos of the world around you as you see it. It’s supposed to bring back the instant nature of “Instagram”, but with the photos of higher quality than smartphone shots. Even though you can take photos with a DSLR or mirrorless camera, the lens has a unique look that sort of resembles the photos taken with an instant one. Here are some of the test shots so you can see it for yourself:

The lens will be available for six different mounts: Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica M, Micro Four Thirds and Fuji. It’s launched on Kickstarter, available for the pledge of $219 or more, and expected to start shipping in March 2018. The lens has already surpassed the $30,000 funding goal. After the campaign is over, Photo Rumors report that the retail price will be $550. And whether it’s worth the money or not, you be the judge. [via DPReview]
