In this intriguing TikTok video, fashion photographer Greg Williams tells how he shot actor Zendaya for Vogue when they were thousands of miles apart on different continents.

He used the app Clos which let the photographer take over Zendaya’s phone which was held by her personal assistant. They were able to talk to one another through the app so Greg was able to give direction remotely. He was even able to scout out the location and wardrobe remotely beforehand with her assistant so that he could work quickly within the limited allotted time frame they had. I think this is a fascinating use of technology to solve a very pertinent problem, particularly at the moment when people are less able to move physically around the globe for work. It also cuts down on unnecessary flights and carbon emissions. It does put the role of the photographer into a slightly different zone in my opinion, closer to the role of creative director, but does it really matter who ultimately pushes the button?
