Fuji’s new GFX 100 is here, and it’s a big looking beast of a camera. It’s a 102-megapixel camera with a 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor. We don’t know if it’s the Sony IMX461, but if it is, it should show some excellent high ISO performance and increased colour accuracy. The GDX 100 shoots video, too, offering 4K DCI and UHD up to 4:2:0 10-bit internally or 4:2:2 10-bit externally over HDMI. It also has an F-log gamma setting to maximise dynamic range and give more grading options in post. Oh, and it has 3.76 million phase detection AF points.
The specs for the new camera are very impressive, as one would expect for a camera that costs $10K.

It’s a pretty massive body compared to Fuji’s previous GFX cameras. It features a built in grip, similar to DSLRs like the Nikon D5 and Canon 1DX II, and weighs around 1.4kg before you’ve even put a lens on it. So it’s quite hefty. Although that grip allows you to hold up to two NP-T125 batteries for up to 800 shots per charge. The GFX 100 shoots to a pair of UHS-II SD cards, a Type-C USB 3.2 port, as well as external microphone and headphone sockets, a wired remote and HDMI output.
The new 102-megapixel comes with a pretty insane sounding autofocus system, with 3.76 million phase detection autofocus points covering almost 100% of the frame. Fuji says that it offers “quick, precise AF performance and subject tracking for both stills and video”. As is the norm for Fuji bodies, it also includes a bunch of film presets including Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, Pro Neg. Hi, Pro Neg. Standard, Eterna, Acros, Monochrome, and Sepia. Interval shooting is available for up to 999 consecutive shots with intervals anywhere from a single second to 24 hours. It also supports multiple exposure mode, with a preview of your first shot as an overlay on the LCD to help you line up your second. This camera is way overkill for my needs, but how about you?
