If you have a pet (or pets), you know they’re too cute not to take photos of them. All the time. Google now has a new feature you might like: Google Photos is now able to recognize your furry friend among people and other animals in the photos. From now on, you’ll be able to see photos of cats and dogs grouped alongside people. You can label them by name and search to quickly find the photos of them. You can even search by breed or by emoji to see the cat and dog photos.
According to Google Blog, this new feature will make it easier for you to find the photos of your pets, and “create albums, movies, or even a photo book” of your four-legged buddy. The app differentiates between different dog and cat breeds. Therefore, if you have a Golden retriever and a poodle, you’ll see their photos grouped separately.
However, if you have more cats or dogs of the same breed, the app might need a bit of help to make a difference between them. As BuzzFeed reports, Google spokeperson has confirmed that the users will be able to sort this out: “you might need to help the app by removing photos of a misgrouped pet, so the app can tell Lassie from Fido.” AI has found its application in photography, and this just the beginning. Google Photos’ new feature is just another example of the use of AI for photography. I use Google Photos only for work-related stuff, so I don’t have photos of my pets there to see how it performs.
