Google reportedly refused to repair or replace the phone under warranty due to “physical damage.” Others, however, claim that the company agreed to repair them under warranty. The phone was released only recently, so the users had had it for a month or two before experiencing this unusual issue.
From the tweets and Reddit posts, it seems that all Pixel 7 owners face the same issue – the camera glass just inexplicably and randomly shatters. One user wrote that he found shards of glass in his pocket after realizing his camera glass was cracked. This isn’t not only disappointing, but it could also be dangerous.
The Redditor who found pieces of glass in his pocket notes that this malfunction could happen due to the temperature change. He went out on a cold day, with a temperature below 0 F (-15 C), and noticed that the camera had cracked once he took out his phone to take a picture. And sure, glass can crack with a temperature change, but it definitely shouldn’t happen to phone cameras. Google still hasn’t issued a statement regarding the randomly shattering cameras. According to The Verge, it didn’t even respond to a request for comment.
