Google Arts & Culture mobile app has presented us with some interesting features that bring together our phone snaps with famous works of art. The latest feature uses AI to make your photos look like iconic paintings. If you’re bored in isolation – this will keep you entertained for a while.
The new feature is called Art Transfer and it’s available under the Camera feature of the Google Arts & Culture app. When you open the app’s camera, click on Art Transfer. From there, you will be directed to take a photo, but you can also upload an image that’s already on your phone. Once your photo is taken/uploaded, you can choose between different styles that you want to apply.
Applying the desired style takes a few seconds. While you wait, the app gives you a short info about the painting, so you can also learn something while goofing around with your phone snaps. When the processing is over, the style is automatically applied to the entire photo. But, you can draw a specific area in the image and have the selected style applied only there.
Once you’re happy with how your photo looks, you can proceed to share it or save it. I haven’t shared mine on social media, but I saved them on my phone and I’ll share them here with you. You can save the image as JPG, or you can choose GIF in case you want to see the transformation.
I played with the app a little bit (and spent way more time than I’d like to admit). The results aren’t always perfect, and the same photo may look great with one “art filter” and terrible with another. Still, it’s fun to try out different looks, and if nothing else – it will help you kill some time in isolation and even learn some new facts about iconic paintings.
