Christmas is coming, and so is buying gifts for your loved ones. In case you have film photographers among your friends and family, Noah of Analog Resurgence has some great gift ideas. In this video, he doesn’t only give you ideas about what to buy. He also offers lots of useful advice on how and where to find these gifts and make a film photographer in your life happy this Christmas.
Here are Noah’s suggestions: Disposable camera – these are easy to find, very cheap, and easy to use. In my opinion, they’re also pretty fun. I remember using an underwater disposable camera a couple of times, so maybe you can search for that one as well. Point and shoot 35mm camera – there are many different types of these, and they’re also cheap and easy to use just like disposable cameras. I had a couple of these when I was a kid and it was my first contact with film photography. So, for some people, a gift like this could also bring back precious memories, and that’s always a good thing. 35mm film – if your analog photographer friend already has a camera (or cameras), you can just buy them different rolls of 35mm film. It’s always a good gift if you ask me. Lomography lenses and cameras – Lomography has some interesting and unusual stuff. For example, the latest one is LomoMod No. 1, a pretty cool camera you can assemble on your own and pair it with a liquid-filled lens. There are a lot more gadgets you can find from Lomography, and make sure to check them out on the company’s website. Instant camera – instant cameras are relatively cheap new, and even cheaper refurbished or used. Although, film is a bit pricey. You can go for Polaroid, but Noah suggests Fuji Instax instead because film is cheaper. Gift card – finally, if you really don’t know what to buy, you can always go for a gift card. This way, your friend can choose the gift on their own, and they’ll certainly know what they need. You can find some gift cards at the Film Photography Project. Beer – this is something I saw in the comments, and I think it can actually be a pretty good idea. First of all, black and white film can be developed with beer (here’s how). There’s even a craft beer designed for developing Kodak 8mm film. That would make a pretty cool gift. Even if your friend doesn’t want to develop photos on their own – I’m pretty sure good beer will always find its purpose. Make sure to watch Noah’s video for more details, tips, and suggestions.
