If you want to achieve the black light look in your photos or videos, buying a bunch of black light bulbs can be quite pricey. But, you can DIY it for only $7. In this video, Jakob Owens of TheBuffNerds shows you two super simple ways to get the black light look without exceeding your budget.

The solution is pretty simple: instead of using a professional black light, Jakob uses a $7 Lee 181 Congo Blue gel. The first method is to put it onto the studio light and use it for your photos or video. Keep in mind though that it cuts out a lot of light, so you’ll need a powerful light source. The second method is intended for outdoor use. You can cut out a circle or a square from the gel and tape it over your lens. In the bright daylight, this also creates an interesting look. Although I personally prefer the result of the gel placed onto an LED light. Have you used any of these tricks in your work? How did they work for you? [DIY BLACKLIGHT Camera Hack! via No Film School]
