When you’re creating HDR images, chances are you’ll get those annoying halos in them. They look very unnatural, but there’s a pretty simple way to fix them. In this video, Unmesh Dinda of PiXimperfect will show you how to get rid of those halos in just a few minutes and make your HDR photos look more natural.
Start by using a Quick Selection tool, or any selection tool of your choice. Select the area where the halos are visible, and expand the selection just a little bit so you don’t have a thin white line. Go to Select > Modify > Expand and expand the selection for just one pixel, it should be enough.
Now, create a new layer and with the selection active, choose the Clone Stamp tool. Sample the areas near the halos and simply paint in. If the area that you painted looks too dark, that’s easy to fix. Since you previously created the new layer, you can simply decrease its opacity until it looks good. Click Ctrl / Cmd + D to deselect, and you’re done. If the painted area still looks too dark, you can also add a layer mask to the new layer. Make the foreground color black and use the Brush tool with a very low flow. Now paint over the dark areas until you’re satisfied, and that’s it!
