There are plenty of ways to change the color of objects in Photoshop. Most of them require you to make a selection of the object you want to change, and it can sometimes be quite complicated. In this video, Colin Smith of photoshopCAFE will show you how to quickly change the color of anything without making any selections.
The basics
Start by opening your image and creating a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Moving the Hue slider will change the entire image, and you don’t want that. So, select the Picker tool within this layer and click on the area that you want to change. Now the color you clicked on will be selected and you can drag the Hue slider to change only those. Alternatively, hold the Ctrl/Cmd, click on the area you want to change and drag left or right.
Now, this is the basic principle, but you can build upon it to get more precise.
Level it up
If you want to isolate a particular part of the image, grab a Marquee tool and make a selection. You can change several colors by clicking on them with the Picker tool and dragging the hue slider. Still, this could give you a funky-looking image if you have more colors within the selection. You can fix it by adjusting the color selection range within the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Also, you may notice that some parts of your image have changed even though you didn’t want them to. This is easy to fix thanks to the adjustment layer mask. Click on the layer mask of the Hue/Saturation layer and paint in with a black brush. And you’re done.
