Macro lenses can be pretty expensive, but luckily, there are several ways to shoot macro photos on a budget. You can turn any lens into a macro lens, and in this video, Raj Khepar will show you how to do it quickly and on the cheap with some help from a Pringles can.
You will need:
An empty can of PringlesDuct tapeA lens (50mm works best)A knife
How to make it:
Take your Pringles can and cut it at about 12cm length (~4.7 in). Keep in mind: the longer the tube, the greater the magnification. But, you’ll also lose more light with a longer tube, so don’t get too carried away. : ) Next, attach the lens on one end of the Pringles can using some duct tape. Check if there are any light leaks and add more tape if necessary. Make eight incisions on the other end of the Pringles can. Fold down four flaps and cut the excess off. Then, attach the other end of the tube to the camera body, again using duct tape. And you’re ready to go! When you use an extension tube, you will lose some light. So, it’s a good idea to illuminate your subject. And if you really like Pringles, you can buy a few more packs and make this strip light. Or this diffuser for a built-in flash.
