Portable storage is a must for all us photographers and filmmakers if we want to store all those huge RAW photos and 4K (or even 6K) videos. I guess we all want a large portable drive, with fast read and write speed, but at a decent price. Enter HyperDisk – it’s a tiny SSD, with up to 1,000 MB/s read and write speed, with the price starting at $85.

HyperDisk is currently being funded on Kickstarter, but I sure hope we’ll get to see it in production. It’s about the size of a credit card, weighing only 45g. Yet, it promises lots of power in a small body. First of all, if offers 1,000MB/s both read and write speed. It packs a 3.1 Gen 2 interface and M.2 NVMe technology to achieve its claimed speed.

As for compatibility, HyperDisk is compatible with all Mac and Windows computers, and with Android smartphones and pads which support Type C OTG. It’s also available to be connected (with a provided adapter) with iPads running iPadOS 13.

Sure, HyperDisk is not the fastest SSD there is, but the faster ones (hi, Glyph) come at a much higher price. For example, a 2TB Glyph will set you back $700, while HyperDisk of the same size is $209. At the same time, we have cheaper options like Samsung T5. The 2TB version costs $250 (on a discount!), but its read-write speed is two times smaller than HyperDisk’s. Still, it’s worth noting that Black Friday isjust around the corner. So if you’d rather invest in an SSD from a major brand, you might be able to pick up one with similar capacities for a lower price. I guess that HyperDisk brings together the size, speed, and price together in a neat, small package. No wonder it has earned nearly $356,000 out of $10,000 goal at the moment of writing this article. There are still two weeks to go, but I guess we’ll get to see it in production since the project has exceeded the planned funds. You can order a 512 GB, a 1TB and a 2TB Hyperdisk through Kickstarter for $85, $139 and $209 respectively. Shipping is expected to begin in January 2020.
