Instagram has just announced a new tagging option that will make anyone feel like an influencer promoting a product. From now on, you can tag products in your photos just like you tag your friends. The feature has existed before, but it was only available to business and creator accounts. But over the next few months, everyone will be able to use it and turn Instagram into even more of an online store it already is.

As I mentioned, tagging a product will be pretty much the same as tagging a person. Once you upload your photo or video and give it a caption, tap the arrow/Next and then “Tag Products.” Then tap on any area in your photo/video, search for the products you want to tag, and then select them as they appear in the search box.

It’s important to note that it only works with those businesses or creators who have registered an Instagram store, and that makes sense. But the tagging option will now become available to everyone, and that’s the biggest change. Over the next few months, it will roll out across the US, but I expect it to be rolled out globally as well. “What do I have from it,” you may wonder. Well, nothing other than feeling that you helped to promote your favorite small business. In fact, this is what Instagram points out as the main purpose of these expanded product tags. Now, shopping isn’t a new thing on Instagram. The platform announced it way back in 2016, and we’ve seen it evolve and change over this time. We’re all used to the fact that Instagram is no longer predominantly a photo-sharing app, aren’t we? Even Instagram’s own boss says it. [via Engadget]
