Venus Optics has just announced Laowa 10mm f/2 Zero-D MFT. “Zero-D” stands for “zero distortion,” which Venus Optics promises with this super-wide lens. It’s also so compact that it could fit in your pocket, and like most Laowa lenses, it’s also pretty affordable. So let’s dive right in and see what this tiny lens has to offer.
The Laowa 10mm f/2 Zero-D is designed for MFT cameras (but it’s likely to be launched in other mounts over time). On a MFT camera, this lens offers around 20mm equivalent focal length. As I mentioned, the lens is also extremely compact and lightweight. It’s 1.61” (41mm) long and weighs only around 4.4oz (125g). Despite the small size, it packs 11 elements in 7 groups with three pieces of extra-low dispersion glass. This is the second MFT lens in the “Zero-D” line-up. It provides better control of the optical distortion, which a common trait of ultra-wide-angle lenses. The Laowa 10mm f/2 Zero-D MFT features a CPU chip and motor which allow the adjustment of aperture via the camera body. The focus magnifier will be triggered for easier focusing when rotating the focus ring.
