For the Leica shooter in your life who has everything, what do you get them this Christmas? A red Leica M, of course. Although, you’ll be paying about an extra $1,400 for that paint job. The normally $5,595 Leica M will cost you close to $7,000 in its fancy red uniform. But you’d better hurry, they’ve only made 100 of them.

Other than the colour, the camera is identical to the standard Leica M (Typ 262). It has no video or even live view modes. But, it is pretty and also matches the red 50mm f/2 Summicron lens they released last year. So, if you picked up the lens last year and want your camera to be colour coordinated, now’s your chance.

As if owning a Leica didn’t already say “I have more money than I know what to do with”, they have to go and do this. It reminds me a little of the Ferrari Hasselblad that came out a few years ago. Although the price increase on this for the red paint job isn’t quite as high as Hasselblad were asking. That one saw a price increase from $18K to $28K.

Leica say that the Leica M (Typ 262) ‘red anodized finish’ will be available exclusively at Leica Stores and Boutiques from today, for a mere $6,995 (body only). – Leica Press Release You can find out more on the Leica website. [via DPReview]
