As well as expanding their EOS R camera and RF mount lens lineups, Canon still seems to be going pretty hard on the long telephoto lenses for the EF mount. Canon News has discovered a number of US patents alluding to what appears to be the recently released 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM, which stole all of Sony’s “Lightweight” thunder, as well as new 300mm f/2.8, 500mm f/4, and 800mm f/5.6 telephoto lenses.
While no specific product names have been mentioned, the two patents, #US20190041605 and #US20190041606 list several lens specifications.
300mm f/2.8

This is possibly the already-existing 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM, or this is a lens that’s way down the line. Given that the Mark III hasnt’ been out all that long, it’s extremely unlikely that Canon would be looking to replace it so quickly.

As always, these are just patents. There are no guarantees of new lenses, although some of these are due for a refresh. Given the interest in Canon’s 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM and 600mm f/4L IS III USM, Canon may be looking to complete their lightweight telephoto lineup.
