After announcing only the development, and after some leaked specs, Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is now finally here. It’s a telephoto zoom made for Sony full frame cameras, but it’s pretty compact for the lens of its range. It’s pretty cheap too, with the price tag of $549. So, let’s see what it brings to the table.

The new Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Of course, you can also use it with APS-C models and get a 105-450mm equivalent focal length range. It’s an autofocus lens with a RXD stepping motor. Tamron promises fast, precise, and quiet AF operation, and the lens should also get along well with Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF functions.

As I mentioned, the lens is pretty small and lightweight considering that it’s a 70-300mm zoom: it’s 5.8″ long with a maximum diameter of 3″, and it weighs 1.2 pound. It’s moisture-resistant, so you can use it in light rain. Here are the full specs: The Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is ready for preorders, and as I mentioned, it costs $549. It should start shipping in late October.
