Nikon’s had a slight reshuffle of their Z lens roadmap. There are still 23 lenses in the list that were announced alongside the Nikon Z6 & Z7 mirrorless cameras, but some are coming a little sooner, and some will be a little later.
We’ve already seen one of these with the recent 14-30mm f/4 announcement, which is one of the six shown in the old 2019 lineup, along with the 58mm f/0.95 S Noct (which is still showing as coming soon on the Nikon USA website). Here’s the old roadmap for comparison.
Looking at the differences between the old and new roadmaps, the 20mm f/1.8 has been delayed from 2019 until 2020, and the 24mm f/1.8 is being brought forward from 2020 to 2019. One of the yet to be announced lenses from 2021 has also been shifted to 2020. This means 6 total lenses coming in 2019 (2 of those have now been announced), 7 in 2020, and 7 in 2021. By the end of this year, the Z lens lineup should be starting to round out quite nicely. With 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm f/1.8 primes, as well as 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8 zooms, those should cover the needs of most shooters. Of course, the lens prices will probably have to come down a bit if Nikon wants a wider appeal. Exactly what the eleven “TBA” lenses are is anybody’s guess, possibly some f/1.4 or more f/1.2 primes? I would hope at least one good macro around the 105mm sort of size. [via Nikon Rumors]
