It’s crazy fast, portable, and so rugged they actually tested it by landing a helicopter on top of it! Yes, you read that correctly, a real-life actual helicopter! If that’s not proof that OWC‘s latest portable storage device should hold up under even Indiana Jones-style conditions then I’m not sure what is. DIYP was obviously intrigued by this claim, so found Sam Mestman from OWC to learn more about it.

This little storage device is the Envoy Pro SX. It’s lightning fast and compatible with both OS and Windows and will connect with any kind of device you wish via both USB-C and thunderbolt. It’s dustproof and waterproof, and is, of course, crushproof. That’s kind of impressive for such a tiny thing. It currently comes in up to 4TB of storage.

If that’s a bit too much for your needs you can try its baby brother, the Envoy Pro Mini. “It’s the only thumb drive you’ll ever need,” says Sam. It has a unique folding system that allows both USB-C and USB-A connections. That can hold up to 1TB of storage. “We have an incredibly flexible line of storage,” says Sam, “whether it’s portable storage, card readers, docks or large raid arrays, OWC basically has the solution for whatever you’re doing.” And OWC is already looking to the future of the newly announced USB-4 2.0 specification. “Everything is going to start standardizing on that,” says Sam. “Basically everything is getting faster, higher resolution. We’ve seen it with photography and that’s only going to translate video. The need for data management…and having storage products that are designed to handle these transfer speeds is what’s going to be required.” The Envoy Pro SX 4TB costs $869 and the Envoy Pro Mini 1TB is $179.
