Photography gear is getting more and more advanced, and it seems that new lenses are being announced every few weeks. But even with all these fancy new lenses, there are still reasons to use vintage ones. Mark Holtze says that there are as many as 100 reasons to use vintage lenses in 2020, but “nobody is sitting through 90 minutes of this,” he adds jokingly. So, he limited himself to a 7-minute video and five big reasons to shoot with vintage glass even in 2020....

SmugMug’s acquisition of Flickr brought some changes to the platform, including the limitation to free accounts, which can now only contain up to 1,000 images. If you have a free account with over 1,000 photos, today is the last day to upgrade to Pro because starting tomorrow, Flickr will delete all your excess photos. With some exceptions, though. With the limitation to free accounts, Flickr aims to encourage photographers to use the platform for interaction and inspiration again, rather than merely as backup storage....

It’s Fujifilm’s turn to make their new announcements this week, and they’ve got some that GFX medium format shooters are going to enjoy. First up, there’s the new Fujifilm GF 250mm F4 R LM OIS WR lens. It has a field of view equivalent to just under a 200mm lens on a 35mm body. So suitable for both longer distance outdoor portraits, as well as shooting closer wildlife. But to help with the wildlife side of things, there’s also the new GF 1....

Fuji’s new GFX 100 is here, and it’s a big looking beast of a camera. It’s a 102-megapixel camera with a 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor. We don’t know if it’s the Sony IMX461, but if it is, it should show some excellent high ISO performance and increased colour accuracy. The GDX 100 shoots video, too, offering 4K DCI and UHD up to 4:2:0 10-bit internally or 4:2:2 10-bit externally over HDMI....

Fujifilm has just announced two new lenses for its two camera systems. The first is the 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR, a versatile zoom for Fujifilm’s APS-C X-mount cameras. The second lens is the GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR, a compact prime designed for the medium format G-mount GFX system. Let’s check out more details and specs. The day has finally come: NASA is sharing James Webb Space Telescope’s very first full-color photos! It started as a messy bunch of bright dots, and now only hours away is a magnificent peek into the universe taken with the latest and greatest space telescope. NASA has been building up the hype for quite some time. We followed the different mirror alignment stages, witnessing the telescope’s progress. NASA shared photos taken with Webb’s Infrared Array Camera and Fine Guidance Sensor....

Laugh all you like, but this has got me a little excited. Godox have just announced a new flash trigger for their 2.4Ghz wireless range. But this isn’t just any old standard flash trigger. Oh, no. This one’s for your mobile phone! The Godox A1 features three built in LEDs, as well as a “hernia flash”. But it also supports their full range of 2.4Ghz speedlights and strobes. While most of us won’t be considering replacing our DSLRs & mirrorless cameras with iPhones just yet, I think this is fantastic....

Only last month, Godox launched the first in their range of “SZ” zoomable LED lights, the SZ150R. This was also Godox’s first RGB Bowens mount LED. Now, they’ve followed it up, expanding the SZ range with a new SZ200Bi. As the name suggests, it’s a 200W bi-colour LED, offering a colour temperature range of 2800K-6500K with a 97+ CRI and 96+ TLCI. As with the SZ150R, the SZ200Bi runs on 100-240v AC power, so this isn’t a portable light, and offers multiple control methods including the onboard UI on the back of the light, DMX, the RC-A6 remote or the Godox Light smartphone app....

I have been using hardware store LED bulbs for both photography and video in the studio for a while (click here for a DIY three light studio setup) – but every time I pass the lighting aisle in my local big box hardware store I always take a look to see what’s new and improved. Whitening teeth in real life can take days, weeks, even months. But you can do it in Photoshop in much less time. In ten seconds, to be exact (yes, really!). In his latest quick tutorial, Unmesh Dinda of PiXimperfect will show you how. The method is as simple as it gets. Open the photo and create a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Choose Yellows, decrease the saturation and you’re pretty much done....

Photography is an expensive hobby and an even more expensive profession. As a person who started photography as a young student, out of pure love and passion, I was not really able to afford everything I needed wanted for this hobby. To be honest, ten years later I’m still unable to afford most of the stuff. This held me back in some aspects, I suppose. But when I look back, I realize that it has also helped me in many more ways....

Earlier this year I was visiting a few camera gear factories in Shenzen China. Aside from getting my phone nicked in a cab ride, it was an enlightening experience. I often take my own self portrait for using my pneumatic cable release that has a long cable and air bulb release. However, I have always been thinking about how to make a more modern kind of remote cable release and hence this project. Research I searched the internet for ideas on how others have made their own cable release and see what are the different components they have used....

Last week I got hit with a massive trolling by my photographer friends.
