Blackmagic S New Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro Features Built In Nd Tilting Lcd And Bigger Battery

Blackmagic Design has announced the new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. It’s a full-frame version of the regular Pocket 6K, but with some features of the URSA Mini Pro. Blackmagic says that this isn’t just an incremental update to the Pocket 6K and is a completely new design, which is a bit beefier, with a whole bunch of new features. One new feature, resolving a big complaint of both the Pocket 4K and Pocket 6K is that it has a tilting touchscreen LCD....

British Photojournalist Arrested For Doing His Job And Covering A Story

Photojournalist Andy Aitchison (46) was recently arrested after photographing protests at Napier Barracks in Folkestone, UK. He was reportedly arrested on suspicion of criminal damage for taking photos. In other words – for doing his job. He believes it’s censorship, and some serious concerns have been raised about media freedom. The protest took place on Thursday, 28 January. The protesters demanded that the Napier camp should be closed due to the poor living conditions in the barracks....

Build A Diy Remote Control Robot 360 Camera Dolly Out Of An Old Wheelchair

If there was ever any doubt that Indy Mogul were back in full force, this should help to belay those fears. In the latest episode of their new Erik Builds the Movies series, Erik Beck builds a remote controlled dolly for a 360 camera out of an old motorised wheelchair. Why might you want one of these? Well, other than just being a cool toy, they’re pretty much the only way you can get the camera operator out of your shot if you want your camera to move while recording....

Build Your Own 2 5X Super Macro Rig For 230

Last summer I bought a macro lens. A normal one, giving 1x magnification. This means that your subject will be projected as big on the sensor as it is in real life. So if you shoot a bug that is 36mm long, it will completely cover a full frame sensor from side to side. I discovered that macro photography is just so much fun. It is much easier to take a cool looking macro photo than a cool looking street or landscape photo....

Camtraptions Has Launched A Solar Panel For Speedlights Nope Not An April Fool S Joke

Given the date, it does sound like a practical joke, but no. Camtraptions has released a solar panel for speedlights. Yup, you heard me. It definitely seems a little odd, but there’s a practical application here that’s pretty specific. It’s for using with camera traps that are often left out in the wilderness for days or weeks at a time or around dangerous animals where you don’t have the ability to swap out batteries every day....

Canon Boasts 55 Share Of Cameras Used At The Tokyo Olympics

The Olympics in Tokyo this year was something of a surreal one. For a start, it was supposed to take place last year, but it just felt quite different to Olympics of the past, particularly when it came to attending as a photographer. Many report having to face certain protocols that haven’t existed in the past due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has made things challenging. For Canon, though, a Gold Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Games (yes, it’s still called that), it was very much a success....

Canon Brings Eye Detection Af To 4K 120Fps Video And Adds All I 60P Xf Avd To The Canon Eos C70 Cinema Camera

Canon has announced a new firmware update for the Canon EOS C70 cinema camera. Don’t get too excited just yet, though. They’ve announced it, but it’s not going to be available to download until December 8th. I can never make sense of why companies do this. Why not just announce it when it’s ready to be downloaded? Anyway, the new firmware brings a bunch of much-demanded features to the camera....

Canon Has Killed Off The Eos 7D Series Report Says

Recently, word of a newly certified Canon DC126801 32-megapixel APS-C sensor came out. It was suspected that this might find its way into potentially upcoming EOS 80D and/or EOS 7D Mark II replacement models. Now it looks like the latter option is well and truly being taken off the table. Canon Rumors is reporting that Canon is killing off the EOS 7D line completely. Although it does seem like an EOS 90D (I’m assuming that’s what an 80D replacement will be called), might be a little beefier than we expected as a result, given the mention of the LP-E6 battery alongside the new 32MP sensor....

Canon Is Launching A Satellite But Why Are They Sending It Up With A 5D Mark Iii

Canon is launching a satellite. It’s the CE-SAT 1B (Canon Electric Satellite 1B). It’s an experimental Earth observing microsatellite developed and built by Canon Electronics. The satellite is quite small, measuring only 50x50x70cm and it’s based on the Hodoyoshi-1 satellite, launched in 2014. Canon sent the original CE-SAT 1 into space in 2017, so the idea is nothing new, but this time we’re hearing about the cameras that are going to be included on the satellite....

Canon Is Releasing An Astrophotography Version Of The Eos R Mirrorless Camera

Astrophotography-specific versions of cameras aren’t all that uncommon for camera companies to announce. Nikon’s done it in the past with the D810a and a few others, and so has Canon with the EOS 20Da in 2005 and the EOS 60Da in 2010. Now, Canon is looking to update, with an Astrophotography version of the EOS R mirrorless camera, according to a leaked manual. Canon Rumors reports that a source told them that the “Canon EOS Ra” has appeared on an internal roadmap for 2020....

Canon Patents Four Rf Mount Cinema Zoom Lenses

A new patent discovered by the folks at Canon News seems to suggest that Canon’s been working on some RF mount cinema zoom lenses. What leads them to believe that these are cine lenses, are that they’re designed for an APS-C format and that the image circle is larger than that of a typical 3:2 format Canon APS-C sensor. There are rumours of upcoming APS-C RF mount mirrorless cameras on the way, although none exist as of right now....

Canon Preparing For Global Eos R5 R6 Event On July 9Th As Teasers Appear Around The World

Well, a July 9th announcement for the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 mirrorless bodies looks to be pretty much confirmed now as Canon websites across the world are putting up pages teasing the event, with Canon Japan even including a countdown timer. The date had previously been rumoured, but nothing was official, until now. Obviously Canon hasn’t come right and said that this is for the EOS R5 and EOS R6, but given that they’re billing it as “our largest product launch to date”, it probably is – especially given the list of speakers....

Canon To Follow Up The Eos M50 With A Mark Ii Update In 2020

Canon’s popular EOS M50 was released only a couple of years ago, and we spoke with Canon about it when we were at The Photography Show back in 2018. But now it looks like we might see an EOS M50 Mark II coming at some point this year. Or, at least an announcement. Canon Rumors reports that there’s a higher-end APS-C camera coming to Canon’s mirrorless lineup and they’ve been told that it will be an EOS M50 successor....

Canon Wins Lawsuit Against Counterfeit Battery Sellers On Ebay

I don’t know why, but I always get a shock when I see how many fake products there are out there. Not clearly marked 3rd party alternatives, but products actually designed and branded to look like the originals. We see it with memory cards regularly and even camera strap accessories, but fake batteries are also out there. Canon has been doing something about the latter, though. Canon has announced that they’ve won a lawsuit against two eBay sellers for selling counterfeit “Canon” batteries....

Capture One Is Changing Its Perpetual License And Ditches Annual Release Cycle But It S Not As Bad As It Sounds

Capture One has sent out an email to customers stating that changes are coming to its perpetual license model. It’s doing a bit of an Adobe and switching over to a primarily subscription-based approach, with new features being added to the application as they’re developed and become available rather than doing a major update each year. This has a few implications for existing perpetual license holders, but it’s not really a bad thing....

Cheating Husband Busted After Traffic Camera Photo Was Mailed To His Wife

If you’ve ever been caught on a traffic camera, chances are you’ve received the letter notifying you that you need to pay a fine. This recently happened to a woman in Germany who got a photo of herself speeding in a tunnel in her husband’s car. The only problem was: that wasn’t her. In fact, she didn’t even have a driver’s license and her husband apparently had something to share after this....

Close Up Photographer of the Year (CUPOTY) shared its last year’s winners in late 2021. And while we wait for the 2022 winners – there’s the “Two of a Kind” challenge to bring us more fantastic photos. It’s a themed contest that runs outside the annual CUPOTY competition, and this time it’s all about tandems. Just like the main contest, the challenge chooses the overall winner as well. This year, the title went to Dutch photographer Alex Pansier....
