Instagram has introduced a set of new rules for new teens who join the platform, as well as those who are already on it. From now on, new people under 16 will automatically see as little as possible sensitive content as it will become the default setting. At the same time, the teens already on Instagram will get prompts to review their settings and set the Sensitive Content Control to the strictest option....
A social media influencer has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after trying to violently steal a web domain name from a stranger. No, this isn’t a Black Mirror episode or an Onion article. The influencer known as “Polo” developed a scheme that involved a Taser, a gun, and his violent cousin who went to the stranger’s door. The cousin broke into the man’s home, and even some blood was spilled as he tried to force the man to give up the domain name....

Earlier this year, Irix finally announced the long-awaited 45mm f/1.4 “Dragonfly” lens. But it looks like we’ll see more new gear from the Swiss lens manufacturer. Another lens is coming soon, and the company has just released a teaser. Irix didn’t reveal too many details, except that they’ll soon have some exciting news. My guess is that it will be a wider lens, something like 35mm or 24 mm. Considering that Irix entered the world of cine lenses last year, it could be a cine lens they’re launching....

Instagram’s verification policy has been tweaked through the years, but it might soon be a feature you’ll need to pay for. Thanks to some magic we call reverse engineering, developer Alessandro Paluzzi figured out that paid subscription badges are in the works for both Instagram and Facebook. Alessandro found two indicators in the app’s code: “IG_NME_PAID_BLUE_BADGE_IDV” and “FB_NME_PAID_BLUE_BADGE_IDV.” Speaking to TechCrunch, he noted that “IDV” could stand for “identity verification”, and that’s it’s also a known meaning for the acronym....

As we reported a few days ago, it seems that Bowens has gone into liquidation. And now they’ve confirmed – after 94 years in the business, Bowens is officially out. They didn’t seem to be able to withstand the competition and the changes in the market. In 2016, Calumet and Bowens were acquired by Aurelius. Exploring the Martian surface in 4K is cool, but The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is about to raise it to an even higher level. Teaming up with broadcaster NHK, JAXA is developing 4K and 8K cameras that will be sent to Mars and take photos of its surface, but also explore its moons Phobos and Deimos. JAXA will use the cameras in the upcoming Martian Moons Exploration (MMX) mission....

The news that LagunaBeach requires a permit for shooting in public places has caused a lot of stir. After strong reactions from the public, it turns out that the problem was – inaccurate choice of words. Laguna Beach Assistant City Manager Christa Johnson told OCWeekly that the permit only applies who photographers and filmmakers who receive compensation for their work. So, the City Council simply changed the “Non-Commercial Photo Permit” to be “Professional Still Photo Permit....
Venus Optics has announced three new ultra-wide Laowa cine lenses for the Canon RF mount. Designed for use on the Canon EOS R5 & EOS R6, the RED Komodo and the new Canon C70 cinema camera, the three new RF mount cine lenses offer extremely wide-angle views (even for Super 35) with focal lengths of 9mm, 12mm and 15mm. All three lenses are part of Laowa’s close-to-zero Distortion (Zero-D) lens lineup....
Laowa has today announced their new 11mm f/4.5 FF RL lens. It’s a tiny lens for its short focal length and wide field of view at only 58mm long and weighing a mere 254g. It’s a rectilinear lens, not a fisheye, and it’s designed to offer complete coverage on full-frame mirrorless cameras. With a 126° field of view, the lens actually has a front 62mm filter thread. Laowa boasts it as the widest rectilinear lens ever made for full-frame that does actually have a filter thread....
The long-awaited Fuji X-H2 is apparently on the way, but unlike the original, there are seemingly going to be two separate X-H2 models. The regular X-H2 and an X-H2S. The X-H2 is rumoured to be a high-resolution model with a ~40mp sensor capable of shooting 8K video, but there hasn’t really been any evidence to back up those rumours. The X-H2S, on the other hand, has had its entire spec sheet leaked....

Leica has just announced the latest addition to its M-series. The Leica M10 Monochrom is a specialized digital rangefinder camera and another black-and-white camera from Leica. It features a 40MP full-frame monochrome CMOS sensor and allows you to take high-quality black and white images. The M10 Monochrom is based on the Leica M10-P, but it’s something like an upgrade of it. It features a higher-resolution sensor and a higher ISO range....
