Drone manufacturer Skydio recently published footage of a person gliding on rollerblades at Yellowstone’s West Thumb Geyser Basin boardwalk. Using a drone is illegal in national parks, so the footage put the California-based company under investigation. What’s more, inline skating on national park boardwalks is forbidden too, so this aerial footage sparked tons of negative comments online. Adobe has just announced a major workflow enhancement in Lightroom for iOS. Soon, all iPhone and iPad users will be able to directly import their photos into Lightroom on their device. There has been some discussion among photographers on Sony’s performance when it comes to skin tones. Photographer David Oastler has put a Sony a9 to a test and compared it with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. Judging from his photos, it seems that Sony is improving on skin tones and it’s pretty close to Canon. For this shoot, David does his best to make both cameras get the same result....
It’s probably not that much of a surprise, but Sony absolutely destroyed pretty much all their competition in 2020 when it came to the smartphone camera sensor market in 2020, with a 46% market revenue share, according to a report by Strategy Analytics. They say the global smartphone image sensor market recorded over $15 billion in revenue in 2020, up 13% year-on-year. What’s perhaps equally as surprising as Sony’s huge 46% share is that 85% of the market was taken up by just three companies; Sony, Samsung at 29% and OmniVision at 10%....
Sony has published specifications for six new sensors, all of which are full-frame, including several stacked sensors and a 15-megapixel sensor that uses Sony’s Quad Bayer design – a design typically implemented in Sony’s smartphone sensors. The new sensors include the IMX521CQR, which appears to be a Quad Bayer variant of the 61-megapixel sensor found inside the new Sony A7R IV. The other five range in resolution from 24 to 48....
Announced in January, the first of two new firmware updates for the Sony A9 is now available. Sony A9 firmware v5.0 adds real-time Eye AF as well as specific eye preference detection, better low light autofocus performance, increased AF accuracy, and a whole host of other new and updated features. One word of warning – Installing the new firmware update will erase all your current settings. So, be sure to make a note of anything important!...

Duovox has announced its new Duovox Mate Pro, launched via Kickstarter, which they describe as “the world’s most advanced true color night vision camera”. It’s also a pretty small camera, measuring only 54 x 106mm across the front face, which they say is “pocketable”, but with as much as the lens sticks out, it probably needs to be a big pocket. They say that its impressive low light performance is thanks to “the latest low-light imaging technology” combined with their own “advanced AI algorithms”....
