With every new camera in the series, there are some changes and improvements over its predecessors. Some of these changes even include the shutter sound. One of the things that many people seem to have noticed about the new Nikon Z6/7 and Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless cameras is that the lens mount is huge. They look at their Sony with its relatively small E-Mount and wonder what the big deal is? Is it all just marketing hype from Nikon and Canon to sell super fast aperture lenses? Maybe not. Leica manager Stephan Schulz backs up the idea that Sony’s E Mount wasn’t designed for full frame cameras in a recent interview with Reddotforum....
According to a tweet from Nokishita, Sony has registered a new camera body, labelled WW734234 with an overseas certification body. It’s equipped with 5Ghz/2.4Ghz WiFi and Bluetooth. It’s the second currently unreleased-but-registered body we know of, alongside WW356015 (which also has 2.4Ghz WiFi and Bluetooth). They also confirmed that these aren’t the recently announced A7R IIIa and A7R IVa (which are basically the old A7R III and A7R IV but with a higher resolution LCD)....

If you are an astrophotographer, then you may be familiar with the so-called “Star Eater” problem of Sony a7R II. The noise reduction algorithm of the camera mistakes sharp pinpoint stars for noise, so it deletes them from photos or reduces their brightness. But after open letters and complaints from astrophotographers – Sony seems to have fixed the issue in the new a7R III. Photographer Drew Geraci shared the good news with the community....

According to a report on Sony Alpha Rumours, the Sony A7S III will be the first camera to use CFexpress Type A memory cards. It’s an odd choice, given that nobody makes CFexpress Type A, although it does make some sense....

Sony is expected to announce a new entry-level full-frame mirrorless camera at some point in the next few weeks. We’ve heard some possible spec rumours about it already, and now it seems we might have a possible price point for it. And it looks well set to compete directly against the Canon EOS RP mirrorless. Polish website Optyczne is reporting that the new Sony (we still don’t know if it’ll be called the A5 or the A6) is rumoured to be priced around $1,000 (the EOS RP is $999 body only) and would come at a significantly lower price than the Nikon Z5, which is currently listed at $1,399 body only....
Sony has posted a video to YouTube with w premiere set for February 23rd at 10am Eastern, (3pm UK time). While they haven’t officially named the camera, the “New Alpha” kind of gives it away, given the Alpha logo on the leaked photos of the video-oriented FX3. By all reports right now, the FX3 is basically looking to be an A7S III in a slightly different body, possibly geared more towards Sony’s new Airpeak drone platform....
On Thursday, 16 May 2019, The Camera Store in Canada was robbed. A man took a Sony A7R III and Sony 16-35mm F2.8 G Master lens, and when the staff tried to stop him – the man attacked them with bear spray and managed to escape. On their blog, the guys from The Camera Store explained what happened in their Calgary-based store. The robbery happened in broad daylight, around 5 pm....

Tamron released its Lens Utility app for Windows and Mac desktops back in October 2021. It’s a great tool that works like similar software from other manufacturers, letting you upload firmware, configure switches and doohickies on lenses or tweak your focus limits, preset distances and various other features. Well, not everybody wants to drag a desktop or even a laptop around with them everywhere. Now, you don’t have to. The Lens Utility Mobile app, teased back in August, has now officially been announced....

We’re a big step closer to a Canon EOS R5 release announcement now, as Nokishita Tweets that it has passed its Bluetooth certification. The belief is that the EOS R5 was originally scheduled to ship in July, and Canon Rumors reports that they’ve been told that’ll still happen. With lockdowns still in effect in much of the world and no definite end in sight, though, there’s no telling if that will happen....
I am notoriously difficult to find backpacks for, as I’ve mentioned on here before. I picked up a Tamrac Cyberpack 6 quite a while ago and it took 16 years to finally find another bag that felt as nice to wear. Now, I’ve found one that blows both of them away in the comfort stakes. Nikon’s teaser video is titled Travel of Light and other than being wonderfully trippy, it shows a glimpse of what could be the new mirrorless camera with the accompanying lens....
