Recently, word of a new Sony IMX671AQR sensor was “leaked” via the Fuji Rumors comments. There isn’t much info about it except for what appears to be a screenshot of the first page of a datasheet. That screenshot details a 43-megapixel APS-C camera capable of shooting 12-bit 8K video. But is it for real? One of the reasons I love shooting with Sigma camera bodies is the combination of the Foveon sensor that delivers great color and image detail with high quality and large aperture lenses like the Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 “Art.” that let me isolate a subject while turning the background into dreamy bokeh-filled canvas like this shot of my daughter. TechCrunch report that Apple has acquired a small computer vision AI tech startup, Regaind. They say that the report has come from multiple sources, and if true could be very cool for the future of Apple’s mobile photography. Apple already added an intelligent search to the iPhone Photos app a couple of years ago. It allows you to search for particular things like “tree” or “water”, and will usually give you what you ask for....
Printed and framed photos are among the best Christmas gifts in my book. For this holiday season, motivational speaker Kyle Scheele made one such gift for his dad, but with a twist. He took a family portrait his dad hates, used his Photoshop skills to “fix” it, and the result made his parents laugh to tears. The large family portrait features Kyle, his brother, his parents, uncles, and cousins. It’s a nice family portrait, but his dad hates it....
In what comes as a complete surprise to absolutely no one, and after having announced only a week ago that the show must go on, IBC 2021 scheduled to begin in just over a week in Amsterdam has been cancelled. Citing the “growing concerns about the COVID-19 situation in The Netherlands”, which show organisers say have deteriorated over the last week, the show has now been cancelled. They go on to say that feedback from IBC exhibitors and visitors has also aided in their decision to cancel the show – which isn’t much of a surprise given how many companies had already pulled out and the number of visitors either unwilling or unable to travel to The Netherlands right now due to government lockdown restrictions recently put in place....
Photography scams are not uncommon. New ones seem to be appearing regularly, and old ones just never seem to die off. Usually, they’re in the form of an email or a text message. They offer to overpay you, then request that you pass along payment to some other vendor. You do so, their cheque bounces, and you’re out a bunch of money. However, the photo inside the magazine, where the sisters are posed together, has recently shocked the public. What started off as a quick lighting test in my garage has turned into a full research and installation of my own DIY photography ceiling rail system! You might now ask why? Whats the point? Here is something I did not see coming. Photographer Robert Hall did a full comparisson between the $600 Godox AD600BM* and the $2,100 Profoto B1. While you’d think that the Profoto will nuke the AD600, this was not the case at all, and in most parameters it either won the battle or stood up fairly well. There was one exception to that, and I think that it’s one of the main reasons that the B1 is so0 much more expensive....
