Facebook recently found itself in the middle of yet another scandal. This time, it’s not about the data leak, but about a racist message users were seeing under a video featuring Black men. Facebook’s AI labeled it as “Primates,” causing a fierce backlash. According to the New York Times, users who watched a video from 27 June posted by Daily Mail received an auto-prompt with the racist message. It was asking them whether they wanted to “keep seeing videos about Primates....

In the past this swirly visual effect had been the money-train for Lomo and their Petzval lenses in the form of the 85mm and the soon to be publicly available 58mm. I own a lot of the Lensbaby lenses and I’ve been very pleased with the resulting optical effects from their previous products so I was certainly pleased to hear Lensbaby were taking a crack at the swirly bokeh effect now too....

According to a recent report, as many as 2.5 billion online photos get stolen every day. A new strategic partnership between Flickr and Pixsy aims to reduce this number. Or at least, to help you protect your work and take legal action. Selfie is a phenomenon so frequent in the 21st century that it has inspired quite a few psychological studies so far. The latest one was conducted Washington State University psychologists, comparing people who post selfies and those who post photos taken by someone else. Will it surprise you if I say that the result is not encouraging for frequent selfie posters at all? According to this study, those who frequently post selfies are perceived as being “less likable, less successful, more insecure and less open to new experiences” than those who post photos taken by others....

Ok, it might be a little unfair to put a $2,400 camera and lens against a $8,100 camera and lens. One would expect a camera rig costing more than three times as much to produce better results. Well, that escalated quickly. After deleting a video featuring Tatsuo Suzuki and his intrusive shooting style, Fujifilm has decided to drop the photographer as the company’s ambassador, too. In case you haven’t followed the story, here’s a quick recap. After the release of the Fujifilm X100V, the company published a series of promotional videos. One of them, featuring Tatsuo, caused a strong backlash from the community. People found his style too intrusive and “rude,” and the company soon decided to take the video down....

Godox has expanded its tube line lineup again with the new 180cm long Godox TL180 bringing the family up to four lights including the foot-long TL30, the 60cm long TL60 introduced at the end of 2020 and the 120cm long TL120, released in February of this year. The new TL180, Godox says, offers unique advantages over its shorter siblings for lighting larger scenes, lighting effects options or for using as a key or fill light....

Chinese lighting manufacturer Godox has already released a few products in 2017 that have helped a lot of strobists build lighting kits with a modest investment. Most notably the Godox AD-200 (Flashpoint eVolv) has become a crowd favorite for a portable and powerhouse flash. While camera companies are racing who will use more advanced and modern tech, GoPro has decided to go a different route. They have just launched HERO, a simplified and budget-friendly action camera. For the price of $220, HERO (no number, just HERO) is aimed at capturing your everyday stories and adventures. GoPro HERO shoots 10MP photos and 1080p60 videos. Nope, there’s no 4K, but there are some other desirable features....

We’ve been so used to hearing about the downsides of AI that it’s easy to overlook the potential benefits. A pioneering new project has developed an AI-assisted wildlife camera in order to protect endangered wildlife better. The University of Stirling teamed up with Dutch tech start-up Hack The Planet to come up with this innovative device. In terms, the AI assists the camera in actually understanding the images as it snaps them....

Well, here is a random collection. If you have a spare nylon bag lying around, dont throw it away. As a photographer there is plenty you can do with it. Ok, I am just kidding, you can throw that bag away. Hopefully, you have a recycling thing for nylon bags. That said, this random collection of photography uses for bags is kinda interesting. I would personally not use any of them if I had a choice (maybe the soft edge one is an exclusion), but in a cinch, you wanna keep this in the bag of your head....

We all know the exposure triangle. The exposure triangle deals with the relations between shutter speed, Aperture and ISO. Those three aspects are dealing with the way that the camera sees light. To better understand light, we can look at the complete path light goes through from the second it leaves the light source (say a strobe), through hitting the object, reflecting the light into the lens , and going through the different lens and camera elements, until it hits the sensor (or film)....
