Irix seems to have taken a change of direction from their previous 11mm f/4 and 15mm f/2.4 ultrawide prime lenses. They’ve now officially announced their new 150mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro lens. Designed for full frame Nikon F, Canon EF and Pentax K mount cameras, the 150mm f/2.8 Macro comes in a new “Dragonfly” finish, which they say combines the best of the previous Blackstone and Firefly designations. As with previous Irix lenses, this is a manual focus lens....

Adobe Lightroom has always faced some stiff competition against Phase One’s Capture One for medium format shooters. Even many photographers using DSLRs have made the switch. If you were hoping to use Capture One with the new Fujifilm GFX, though, you may be out of luck. Imaging Resource seems to think that Phase One are feeling a little threatened by Fuji’s new mirrorless. But I don’t necessarily think that’s true....

With sports in-stadium income on the decline, stadiums are trying to figure out new revenue streams. But this is a photography blog, so there is a photography angle (no pun intended) involved. Canon is developing a new “camera system” that will enable viewers to “fly” in the stadium and view the game via any vantage point that they choose. This video shows how the technology will work, though it feels pretty CGI to me....

After Bruno Mars, Gigi Hadid and Rod Stewart, Jennifer Lopez is also being sued for allegedly using someone else’s photo without permission. After the pop star posted a photo of herself to Instagram, photographer Michael Stewart filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement, which could earn him up to $150,000 if he wins. The Blast reports that Stewart took a photo of J. Lo earlier this year while she was walking through New York City, wearing a colorful shirt and white pants....

Peter McKinnon shows you how to do it, and he makes it look easy in a simple 2-minute tutorial. With this technique, you won’t only be able to replace the sky in a landscape photo. Lomography has come up with some interesting products in the past couple of years. The latest addition to their family is the Lomogon 2.5/32 Art lens. It’s a handcrafted 32mm f/2.5 lens aimed particularly at travel and street photographers, but of course, it can be used for many other genres. Aside from reasonable price and compact design, the most interesting feature of this lens is probably its perfectly circular bokeh....

The Magic Lantern team made an announcement that they added 4Kraw video recording to Canon EOS 5D Mark III. Since the news was released on April 1st, it left us all wondering – can this be true? It started with a phone call from the picture editor of one of country’s best selling newspapers asking me to catch a flight that evening to Amsterdam to accompany a journalist for a story first thing the next morning. I’ve never heard of a tree more popular than “That Wanaka Tree.” Sadly, such huge popularity has attracted all sorts of people to the fragile willow, not all of them with good intentions. It was discovered yesterday that someone had vandalized the tree and cut several large branches with a saw or a chainsaw. Councilor Quentin Smith told The Guardian tree was “iconic.” There’s no doubt that its fame was built through social media, considering that the hashtag #thatwanakatree currently counts nearly 60,000 posts....

Nikon D850 was officially announced yesterday, and we went through all of its features. The camera undoubtedly thrilled many digital photographers, but there’s another useful feature occasional film photographers will find useful. With the optional ES-2 film digitizing adapter, Nikon D850 doubles as a 45.7 MP film scanner. You can use it for both 35mm negatives and slides, and take advantage of the high pixel count on the latest Nikon’s DSLR....

I think this is the last of them now, but along with the new Nikon Z5, Nikon has also announced that they’re releasing the beta for a “webcam utility software” in August that lets you use “many” of its DSLRs and Z mirrorless cameras. The software will be free, and available initially for Windows 10. Up until now, if you wanted to stream with a Nikon, you’re relying on 3rd party software like ControlMyNikon and then capturing it with OBS to fake a webcam device to use in Skype, Zoom, etc (similar to Panasonic’s current solution – for now)....

It looks like Nikon are planning to not only enter the world of 360VR but take on the action cameras, too. It makes sense. It’s a huge market, and many action camera owners have 2 or 3 of them. The KeyMission delays are believed to be due to the earthquakes experienced in Japan earlier in the year. It seems they haven’t wasted the time since then. Instead of just a single camera, though, it appears the KeyMission is now a small family of cameras....

Nitecore is a Chinese company producing rechargeable flashlights and third-party batteries (including smart batteries no one asked for). But now it’s about to make camera lenses as well. The company has just announced five full-frame cinema primes ranging from 25mm to 100mm. They will be compatible with a range of mounts, and the company promises “optimum optical quality.” Nitecore’s line of lenses is called Superior Prime, and these are the expected models:...

Well, this is a bit of an anti-climax. Sigma UK recently added an event to their Facebook page for their CP+ announcements, with a couple of clues suggesting that we might be about to finally hear an announcement about the long-awaited full-frame Foveon. Today, though, Sigma Global has announced that a full-frame Foveon camera is essentially on hold indefinitely. A full-frame Foveon camera was first announced at Photokina 2018 as part of the then-new L Mount Alliance with Leica and Panasonic....

Smartwatches with cameras in wristbands aren’t entirely new. However, the ones we’ve seen so far require you to contort your wrist if you want to point them in different directions. It seems that Apple is trying to solve this problem. The company has recently patented a smartwatch with an adjustable camera built right into the wristband, which allows you to easily position it any way you like. The concept displayed in the patent shows that the camera could be at the end of a loop band, which would allow you to point it anywhere with ease....

South Korean electronic giants Samsung may be entering into the drone market, according to a patent published by the US Patents & Trademark Office. According to GizmoChina, though, it’s not just any drone. It’s a “transformable drone”. Exactly how that’s different from a “folding drone”, I’m not so sure, but that’s what GizmoChina call it. Reports suggest that this will essentially be the drone version of the Samsung Gear 360....

Humans 1 : statues 0. Looks like we are winning the battles against still objects. More so, we are killing those statues by taking selfies. Or at least this is the score at the latest battle between man and the 126-year-old statue of Portuguese king Dom Sebastiao. According to the New York post, the 24 year old, climbed on to the statue’s pedestal and knocked it down while trying to take a selfie....
