When a fan ran onto the stage, the photographer sprinted toward him and tackled them to the ground. The man tried to escape, but the photographer was persistent and kept tackling him to the floor. The entire incident was caught on camera from different angles, showing this rather weird and potentially dangerous incident....

Around two years ago I decided that it was time for a change. I’d been shooting with various Nikon cameras (D40, D3200, D5300, D7100) over the years, alongside shooting film. For the first time in its 62-year-long history, World Press Photo Foundation disinvited a photographer from the annual awards ceremony. Andrew Quilty won third place in this years’ contest in the Spot News, Stories category, but he didn’t attend the show. The reason is alleged reports of his “inappropriate behavior.” Andrew Quilty was awarded for a series of images of the aftermath of a bombing in Kabul. However, he was reportedly uninvited from the ceremony in Amsterdam which was held on 11 April....

Xiaomi have been teasing us about their foray into the drone market for a little while now. Now they have officially announced the Mi Drone, a 4K quadcopter which also shoots RAW stills, for a mere $460. Boasting an array of impressive features, the Chinese electronics company looks all set to take on the big boys at a fraction of the price. If the $460 price tag doesn’t already make it one of the least expensive drones in its class, a $380 1080p version is also planned....

There’s no doubt that smartphone cameras are getting better and better. But still, we often hear that large prints of smartphone photos can’t look nearly as good as those taken with a DLSR or mirrorless. In his latest video, Nigel Danson decided to test this and made 30 x 24” prints of his smartphone photos. And despite some people’s claims – they actually look pretty impressive. Yongnuo have quietly announced the new ultra wide angle 14mm f/2.8 lens rumoured a few days ago. Looking at the specs it appears to be designed for full frame bodies offering a diagonal 114° field of view with a very bright aperture. Best of all, it’s autofocus, not manual. We’ve seen some pretty amazing eBay camera gear listings (this is my personal favorite). At the moment, an eBay seller is offering the last Leica M3 camera ever produced. The seller claims that it’s never been used and that it’s in the condition “as it left the factory more than 60 years ago.” And this rare piece of gear will set you back mere $595,000. The Leica M3 is described in the listing as “the greatest rangefinder camera ever made if not the greatest camera ever made....

With the number of people making the shift from more traditional DSLRs to Sony mirrorless systems, adapters are often a way of life. I have a big stack of adapters myself for mounting lenses from half a dozen different systems onto four different types of camera body. It’s simply a question of versatility and providing more options. There are a bunch of things you can do with your smartphone camera other than taking photos. Thanks to a group of scientists and physicians at UC Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, you might soon be able to take a COVID-19 test at home safely, quickly, and accurately. They wanted to assess whether a smartphone setup is suitable for testing for SARS-CoV-2 and flu virus without the need for specialized equipment, accessory devices, or custom reagents....

Photographing a meteor shower is more like photographing a time-lapse than traditional still photos. You can never anticipate where or when a meteor is going to streak across the sky. In order to catch them, you have to set up and take as many photos as you can throughout the night with a wide angle lens on the camera. If you leave the camera in the same position, you can use the resulting images for a short time-lapse clip in addition to the still images you can capture....

Z-Cam was pretty much unheard of until relatively recently, but they made quite a big splash at NAB earlier this year. They had a pretty sizeable stand offering up some pretty big promises for the filmmaking industry with a set of 4K, 6K and 8K cameras. I think in street photography, there are many different “sub-genres.” For example, you have the traditional candid street photography, you have “street portraits” (taking photos of strangers, primarily of their faces), you have photos of urban landscapes, and of just random stuff you might find on the streets. Candid street photography is one of the trickiest. You need to be fast, you don’t want to disturb the scene, and you want to have courage....

66 bundles of undeveloped film, estimated to be over 1,200 rolls, shot by the same photographer in the 1950s have found themselves in the hands of Levi Bettwieser at the Rescued Film Project. Acquired by the Bettwieser a year ago at auction,the bundles of film are meticulously wrapped and labelled, including information such as the camera used, light modifiers, and exactly when the films were shot. Nothing is known about the identity of the photographer, except that his name is Paul....
