Common, everyday stuff can be magical in photos if we know how and when to look. Photographer Denis Cherim certainly knows to pick a perfect moment or a perfect point of view. In his Coincidence Project, he has captured juxtapositions of everyday objects, and his work shows a different view of the world around us.
Coincidence Project is an ongoing project which started five years ago. Denis has been traveling and living in different countries and cities, and in all of them there were coincidences he would capture. So far, the life has taken him to Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Toledo, Valencia, Bucarest, Sofia, Plovdiv, Istanbul, London, Vienna and to some other places as well. And each one of them had the scenes Denis captured and included in the project. Currently, he’s doing a 3-month artistic residency in Kaohsiung (Taiwan). I’m sure there are some amazing photos to come from this place as well.
I asked Denis about the gear and he says he started the project with a Fuji X-Pro1. With time, he switched to Fuji X-T2, and he mainly uses this camera now.
I find Denis’ photos really clever. Some of them are perfectly timed, yet the others required an ideal point of view. Either way, Denis has created a set of images that play with your mind. But other than being very clever, these photos had an incredibly soothing effect on me as well. I can’t explain why, but it made me enjoy the series even more.
