Samyang Optics has today announced their new Xeen CF 16mm T2.6 and 35mm T1.5 cine prime lenses. They’re available in Canon EF, Sony E and PL mounts. The two new lenses add to the 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5 completing Samyang’s lineup of five Xeen CF models.

The Samyang Xeen CF line is designed to provide the maximum amount of image quality in the smallest and lightest possible lenses. This is helped by the integration of carbon fibre into the barrel design. As with the other three lenses in the Xeen CF lineup, the two new 16mm T2.5 and 35mm T1.5 primes are available in Canon EF, Sony E and PL mounts.

Samyang says that the two new lenses, as well as the rest of the Xeen CF lineup, are designed specifically for shooting high-resolution video up to 8K – potentially handy for those thinking about the upcoming Canon EOS R5. Their unique X-Coating technology, they say, helps to provide “uncompromising clarity and detail” while allowing the use of flaring (Hi, J.J.!) for dramatic effect. The Xeen CF 16mm T2.6 and 35mm T1.5 will cost £1,999.99 in the UK, inclusive of VAT. But there’s no mention of exactly when they start shipping. US prices don’t yet seem to be available, but the UK prices match that of the Xeen CF 24mm T1.5, which currently retails in the USA for $2,495. You can find out more about the lenses on the website of Samyang’s UK distributor, Intro2020.
