I believe you’ve heard of those fraudsters who live abroad but still try to claim welfare from their home countries. But did you know what they submit as “proof” that they’re still living at home? Badly photoshopped photos. I’m talking “Oprah’s third hand” bad, and even worse. The UK’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has reported an increase in fraud involving photoshopped images. But some of them are so hilariously bad that it would be a shame not to share them for some laughs.
The Times of London reports that Photoshop has become an incredibly common method of fraud, so digital forensic analysts have had to become more skilled at spotting fabricated images. But some of them are definitely easier to spot than others. Like this “proof” of living in the UK, when DWP asked a man to take a photo of himself by his front door:
Where do we even start? What drew your attention first: the white outline around the man, the Google Street View camera reflection in the car windshield, or the freakin’ “Google” copyright logo? The logo did it for me, but then I noticed the rest. Here are two more genius examples:
And my absolute favorite: Needless to say, this is definitely wrong, and you shouldn’t try to trick authorities by photoshopping anything.
