Sigma has announced the new Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Fuji X Mount. Originally released in October of 2021 for Leica L and Sony E mount, this APS-C lens is now available to Fuji shooters. It’s pretty much the same lens, but with a new mount, so it has all of the same specifications with the same internals and external appearance. It just has a larger customer base. The new addition expands Sigma’s Fuji X mount lineup now to four lenses, along with the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary and 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary fast prime lenses released earlier this year. Although this is the first zoom lens Sigma is releasing for Fuji shooters, they’ve kept with a fast aperture lens having a constant f/2.8 throughout the zoom range.

Not only is this the first Sigma zoom lens available for Fuji X shooters, but its release last year also marked the first zoom lens in Sigma’s entire lineup designed specifically for APS-C size mirrorless cameras. Sigma’s goal, initially, appears to be a lineup of focal lengths to make a complete system for APS-C mirrorless users. We’ve already got a few primes and now there’s the zoom for when you don’t want to have to carry around multiple lenses and swap out in the field. While its maximum constant f/2.8 aperture is a whole two stops slower than that of the f/1.4 primes in Sigma’s DC DN Contemporary APS-C range, the ISO performance of cameras today and the convenience of using a zoom lens rather than multiple primes will outweigh the disadvantage for many people. Other than the mount, it’s essentially the same lens that was announced last year, so the specs are the same.

The new lens sticks to the price of the original L and E mount versions and is available to pre-order now for $549. It’s scheduled to start shipping through authorised retail parnters in early December.
