Advertisements The National Awards program supports local photographic communities. It chooses winning images from 63 countries/regions around the world, and each country has its winner to represent it, so to say. The program awards one photographer from each nation for a standalone image. They can showcase their work to a global audience at the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 exhibition which was due to take place at Somerset House, London from 17 April – 4 May. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the exhibition will be postponed for the summer. The Sony World Photography Awards ceremony and winners announcement will take place on 9 June 2020.
SWPA has been around for 13 years, and this year’s contest has broken the record in the number of entries. Over 345,000 images were submitted to the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 competition. The National Award winners are chosen from those who entered the Open competition, and this year there have been over 190,000 submissions. I have chosen some of the winners of the National Award competition. If you want to check out the entire gallery, make sure to visit SWPA’s website.
