If you are a long time reader of the blog, you know that we love sand bags. I mean, what can ruin a shoot better than a piece of gear flying into the talents eye, right? Especially if they are talking about sand bags…. I thought that there was little to innovate in that area, but we saw the water weight bagel thingy last year, and now comes StandDaddy.

The concept behind StandDaddy, is using cheap barbell weight plates as the weight part, and the Stand Daddy as the securing bit.

If you look at StandDaddy, it is a simple device, a ring with a nut sunk into it. But that nut provides a locking mechanism for any plates on a stand. And unlike sandbags which go on the middle of the stand, the weight plates go on the “legs” of the stand (or tripod). According to StandDaddy’s site, you can use the little gadget to secure C-stands, tripods, boom arms, light stands and other round things that need to be secured with weight.

Joe Edelman took this gadget for a spin and he seems quite happy:

A single unit will set you back $9.95 and an eight pack is $58.95. [via Joe Edelman]
