Fujifilm’s new compact camera, the Fujifilm XF10, is a tiny little camera with a great big sensor. The ultralight compact boasts a relatively massive APS-C sized CMOS sensor. That sensor shoots a respectable 24.2MP resolution stills, and mostly useless 4K video for up to 30 minutes along with 1080p at up to 60fps.Advertisements Weighing in at a mere 280g (10oz), the camera sports a fixed focal length 18.5mm f/2.8 lens, offering about a 28mm full frame equivalent field of view. No, it doesn’t have the crazy 125x zoom of other not-so-compact cameras, but this is a very different camera for a very different purpose.

That 18.5mm lens featuures 7 elements in 5 groups, with a minimum focus distance of around 10cm (4″). ISO ranges between 200-12,800, extending from 100-51,200 and it shoots up to 6 frames per second stills. When it comes to video, the 1080p specs are about what we’d expect from a current model camera. It’ll shoot 23.976, 24, 50, and 59.94 frames per second. But for 4K UKD, it shoots a mere 15 frames per second that seems to be becoming a thing right now. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t really see the point of 4K 15fps video. Can anybody explain it?

Anyway, that aside, this little compact supports SD, SDHC and SDXC cards up to 256GB, and features HDMI output as well as a microphone input. The 3″ 1040K pixel touchscreen LCD doesn’t flip out (or up, or down), though, so it’s probably not going to be all that useful as a vlogging camera.

If you’re after a nice little compact with a fixed wide-ish focal length and want a sensor larger than that found in your phone it doesn’t look like a bad option. The Fujifilm XF10 is available to pre-order now for $499.95 and comes in Black or Gold. It’s expected to become available sometime in August.
