Shots from an airplane window can be truly beautiful. And shots of Northern lights can be even more beautiful. But how about combining these two? Well, this is exactly what Aryeh Nirenberg did. I don’t know if Aryeh had a New Year wish to see something this spectacular, because this is exactly when it happened. He saw Northern lights from an airplane on December 31st, 2016, while he was on his way from New York to Reykjavik, Iceland. He carried all his camera gear in the carry-on. And he wasn’t only lucky to see such an amazing sight, but he also had an entire row in the plane to himself. So, when he saw the Aurora from the plane window, he got his gear from the overhead bin and began shooting.
A post shared by Aryeh Nirenberg (@art_only) He used Nikon D810 with the Nikon 20mm 1.8 lens at f/1.8 and ISO 3200. There were continuous 4 second exposures, later rendered with Lightroom and LRTimelapse. He placed the camera on a tripod and rigged it to the window using a blanket to reduce glare. Aryeh shared his setup with DIYP, and as you can see from the video – it definitely did the trick.
