From 12 to 26 February, visitors of Yosemite National Park will be able to see and capture the magnificent “firefall” phenomenon. Due to its increasing popularity, this year’s event will require parking reservations and permits for everyone who wants to attend.
According to CBS, the annual “firefall” event attracts over a thousand sightseers every year. Because of this, traffic jams and safety issues are increasing along with the popularity of the event. As an attempt to minimize the risks and make the experience enjoyable for everyone, National Park Service has decided to issue the parking permits.
As National Park Service writes, over the two-week period of the event, Northside Drive between Yosemite Valley Lodge and El Capitan Crossover will be closed. If you want to experience the “firefall” event, you need to obtain a parking permit. There are 250 reservations available online through The Ansel Adams Gallery. NPS adds that the reservation is not the permit. If you make the reservation, you need to pick up your parking permit at The Ansel Adams Gallery on the day reserved. At least 50 permits will be available each day at The Ansel Adams Gallery. However, if you don’t manage to make your reservation, worry not. You’ll still be able to attend the event and take your photos, but you’ll need to take a walk or a shuttle bus.
